WoW: Past to Present
The first release of WoW in November 2004 broke game records from left to right. And most of all, it has won the hearts of millions of gamers around the world. Which is why preorders for WoW went soaring after leaking out the release date.
Most of WOW fans never have doubted that it would but amaze them once and for all, and they were proven correct. Millions of people who got the WoW preorder version were rewarded for the their loyalty, dedication and love for WoW. WoW didn’t stop in online gaming domination. They went merchandising, and released a marketing masterpiece: WoW Board game. This WoW preorder promotional strategy was coordinated together with Fantasy Flight Games.
The WoW Board Game lets you choose any of the 16 characters, drawn from eight races and nine character classes of the WoW universe, and lead the victory of Hordes or Alliance. For the dedicated WoW gamers, they were able to get one of sixteen different bronze WoW heroes upon placing a WoW preorder. These are the rare edition figurines, and only 300 sets of those were made. The WoW preorder promotion was held in October 2005 until the end of November 2005.
Following this success, Blizzard then went to announce its next WoW preorder promotion, which went far in generating curiosity in the gaming world. It aims to expand the current WoW game by retailing a WoW expansion pack, aptly called The Burning Crusade. Eight million players signed up for the preorder in January 2007, days before the WoW expansion pack was released. The preorder for the WoW expansion pack was promising enough, and sales went off the record when it was released in United States, Europe and Canada on the midnight of January 16, 2007.
It didn’t stop there. Following the success of the first WoW expansion pack, the Wrath of the Lick King expansion was officially announced on August 3, 2007 at BlizzCon. The majority of the WoWexpansion content takes place in Northrend with the spin off storyline about the plans of the Lick King. The latest WoW patch features a new hero class called Death Knight. For a player to create a Death Knight character in his WoW account, there should be a level 55 character present in it. Having that in your WoW account would give you the privilege of creating a Death Knight character, which would start at a high level. The latest WoW expansion pack added new siege weapons, destructible buildings and a new battleground. IT also spawns a bunch of new quests, monsters, recipes, items, and dungeons that WoW fanatics have loved ever since the game started. Features of Customizing a character were also added.
WoW redefined how games were made and how it is played. A milestone leap from 2D Nintendo days. It is uncertain if how long would WoW keep up to the expectations and live up to its name. The most certain, however is its mark in history when it combined gaming and interactivity amongst players. The best the we could do is wait for future progress of WoW, and speculations has it that Blizzard is already planning for another expansion. WoW is definitely here to stay.
